  • Do you provide a shuttle to the San Antonio International Airport or SeaWorld San Antonio?
    Unfortunately we do not offer shuttle service to either of these locations.  We can arrange taxi or car transportation for you if needed through our hotel concierge to both locations.  Please keep in mind that we are a short 1 ½ miles from SeaWorld and just 17 miles to the San Antonio airport, and offer complimentary self-parking here on property.

  • Can I take my engagement, family or other professional photos at your hotel?
    The beautifullandscape of our property is the perfect backdrop for your family portraits or engagement photos.  We kindly ask that if you wish to come on property and bring in a professional photographer that you contact our marketing department at (210) 520-4022 with dates and details of the photo shoot. A fee of $200 for up totwo hours on property will be applied to those who do not have room accommodations with us.

  • How many restaurants do you have on property?
    We have a total of seven restaurants to choose from at the resort.  Springhouse Café is our three-meal, casual family restaurant, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.  Antlers Lodge is our upscale restaurant, offering dinner service Tuesday through Saturday evenings.  Charlie’s Long Bar is our authentic Texas saloon, offering a select food menu and full bar.  Cactus Oak Tavern is our 19thhole restaurant, offering breakfast and lunch options outside our Hill Country Golf Club pro shop.  We also have two outdoor, poolside restaurants, Papa Ed’s and Vince’s Watering Hole, that are open seasonally.  Our General Store offers a full-service coffee bar and on-the-go meal options such as breakfast tacos, pastries, salads, sandwiches, and much more.Please click here to visit our dining page for more details on each of our restaurants.

  • Are your restaurants open to the public?
    Yes!  All of our restaurants are open to the public.  Antlers Lodge is an especially nice place for locals to enjoy a delicious, romantic meal, or to impress a business client.  Charlie’s Long Bar invites locals in to grab a cowhide stool at our copper-top bar and enjoy one of the largest local Texas beer selections around!

  • Do you have any special offers or deals?

  • What kinds of activities do you have for kids?
    We are happy to provide a variety of activities for the whole family to enjoy while visiting our resort.   • Do you offer babysitting services?

  • What types of pools do you have?
    We have a variety of outdoor pools available for use during your stay.  Our family activity pool offers water volleyball and basketball and connects to our lazy river.  Our Texas pool serves as our adults-only pool in the summer months and is accompanied by a hot tub.  Our spa pool and hot tub areavailable for spa patrons, and is secluded from our water park to help promote a quiet, serene environment.  We also offer a zero-entry wading pool for our beginning swimmers.  All of our pools are heated and open year-round. Pet Policy


Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is a dog-friendly hotel, in accordance with the following policies:

  • A reservation must be made at least 3 days in advance of arrival
  • Only dogs weighing 50 pounds and under are permitted
  • Two dogs may be allowed in a guestroom, provided that the combined weight of both dogs does not exceed 75 pounds
  • Cost is $150.00 per stay up to 6-nights
  • An additional $150 deep-cleaning fee will be charged for stays from 7 to 30 days
  • Dogs are not allowed in restaurant, pool, golf course or spa areas
  • An ID tag for the dog with the hotel's name and phone number will be provided and tag must be worn for the entire stay and returned to the Front Desk upon check-out, or a $25 fee will be added to the guest room bill
  • Dogs must walk in the designated "dog walk" area and owners are responsible for the clean up of any waste
  • Dogs must be settled by 9:30PM
  • Owner must maintain the "Dog on Vacation" door hanger outside of guestroom door at all times
  • Owner must provide a cell phone number in order to locate guest in the event of an emergency
  • Owner must call Housekeeping  to arrange daily cleaning times, otherwise room will not be serviced - the dog may not remain in the room while Housekeeping is providing service
  • Owner is responsible for all damage to hotel property
  • The hotel does not assume liability for the guest's pet or its action while at the hotel

Hotel History


Land - 2,828.97 acres of it, to be exact.  That was the total size of the Rogers-Wiseman ranch at its zenith.  Not a large “spread” by Texas standards.  One of the ranch’s early contemporaries, the XIT, covered more than 3 million acres.  But the many different tracts and surveys of this particular piece of much-traded land have direct ties to some of the most pivotal people and events in Texas history.


Let's start at the beginning.  In 1887, D.G. Rogers, failing in the resort business in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, traded his Oconomowoc resort property for $75,000 in cash, 500 head of cattle, a race horse, three ranch houses and “certain lands, situated, lying and being in the county of Bexar, Texas” (never dreaming that a portion of it would eventually and ironically become the home of one of the finest resorts in the country).


Counting a dairy farm in Wisconsin among his many holdings, D.G. had the resources at hand to set up operation almost immediately.  Sending his son Henry ahead, he contracted to ship additional cattle to Texas.  Being from Wisconsin and familiar with the dairy industry, he naturally envisioned a large dairy ranch.  With that in mind, he shipped a heard of fine, full-blooded, Jersey cattle down.  Unfortunately, the Jersey cattle proved to be entirely unsuited to Texas.  In fact, much the same could be said about his son, Henry as well.


D.G. attempted to run the ranch from Wisconsin, but it was becoming increasingly obvious that Henry was more intent on spending his time in town.  Despite D.G.’s best efforts and yearly visits, the pastures were overgrazed, the ranch hands were not always paid in a timely manner, and eventually, the Jersey bull died.


As the dairy operation seemed to require considerably more attention than Henry could provide, D.G. thought the ranch could be turned to better use.  So, he had a shipment of fine, Dapple Grey Percheron horses shipped down.  This proved to be an extremely popular proposition with Henry.  They were easier to sell than the Jerseys, and in fact, it was said that there was at least one Dapple Grey Percheron in front of every saloon in San Antonio.


 In April 1901, Henry married Mary Feldtmann.  Despite Henry’s history, D.G. was willing to help the family get a fresh start.  Feeling the pressure of time and age, D.G. was banking on one last hope to save the ranch – a grandchild.  And in January 1903, D.G.’s hope was realized.  Mary Rogers gave birth to a child.  Two months later, D.G. died.  And, while provisions were made for Henry and Mary, D.G. left the entire ranch and its holdings to his infant granddaughter, Blanche Rogers.


As Henry spent much of his time in town, Mary was often left to run the ranch on her own – which she did quite well.  However, they did fall upon some hard times in the coming years.  In 1906, the original Rogers ranch house, built before D.G. had bought the property, burned to the ground.  In time, they would rebuild the ranch house.  And, thanks to Mary’s frugal nature, her talents in the kitchen and the iron-clad trust fund that D.G. had set up for Blanche, they were able to get by on the meager crops and livestock they raised themselves.  But the loss of the ranch house was just the beginning.


When she came of age, Blanche married a man by the name of Quintus Ellison.  Eager to start a family, they were soon the parents of a healthy, beautiful baby girl whom they also named Blanche, but called “Sugar”.  In an unfortunate accident, the heavy lid of a cedar chest fell on Sugar’s head, resulting in irreparable brain damage.  Shortly after, Quintus was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and died within months.  Then, Henry died.  For all intents and purposes, Mary, Blanche and Sugar were on their own.  The year was 1929.


Mary was tough.  There was no doubt about it.  And Blanche was her mother’s daughter.  So when the Depression hit, destroying farms, ranches and lives by the thousands, they were hardened unlike any others.  Cutting back acreage to the bare minimum, they leased out all but 100 acres of the ranch to a neighbor.  The neighbor, in turn, leased the land to a nearby “dude ranch”.  From there, they were introduced to a young ranch hand named Ed Wiseman.  Mary hired Ed to help work the ranch in 1933, and in 1934, Blanche married him.




Ed soon brought the land back into the family – and back into production.  Devoting himself to the ranch, he began to make it prosper through good land management and animal husbandry.  In 1935, Ed and Blanche gave birth to Charles Rogers Wiseman.  Five years later, Mary Ann “Tootie” Wiseman was born.  Along the way, the ranch got its first telephone, Ed traded his eight mules and $400 for the family’s first tractor, electricity was connected, and in 1940, the ranch house got its first indoor toilet.


As the years passed, the successful ranching and farming operations assured college educations for the children.  After graduating, both were married and had children of their own.  The grandchildren loved to visit the ranch – which by then had become a place to relax, a place of enjoyment, a place known to all as “Papa Ed’s Ranch”.  In 1987, the family witnessed two very important milestones, the birth of Ed’s first great-grandchild (and the sixth generation to be a part of the family’s ranch heritage), and the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Family Land Heritage Program honored the Rogers-Wiseman ranch for having been in production for 100 years.


In 1990, with the Rogers-Wiseman family branching out and the city moving ever closer, the family decided to sell 200 acres of the ranch to a group of companies assembled by Woodbine Development Corporation of Dallas.  The team had great plans – a Hyatt Regency resort capturing the essence of Texas’ historic Hill Country.  A place as enjoyable for new guests as it was for those of times past - a careful blend of old and new.


So, remember as you walk down our hotel’s hallways, that you are on the path that once led to a family ranch house.  When you stand on the driving range, you are on the site of the original homestead.  And when you’re on the 18th fairway, stop and enjoy the nature.  If you see someone driving a tractor (the mules are long gone), give them a wave.  Much of the adjoining property still belongs to the family, and we think they would appreciate knowing good folks like you are enjoying their ranch today.

Firearms Policy

The safety and security of our guests and associates is of utmost importance to Hyatt. This policy is designed for the protection of our guests and associates, and pertains to the presence of firearms on hotel premises.


Hyatt recognizes that guests or visitors may legally possess firearms for a variety of legitimate purposes.  This policy is intended to create a safe environment for all guests and visitors by providing appropriate guidance over the custody of firearms on our premises.

Hotel premises are private property.  Guests or visitors of a Hyatt hotel who lawfully are permitted to possess a firearm, may bring such firearm onto hotel premises for storage purposes only. Any guest or visitor who is in possession of a firearm on hotel premises is personally responsible for abiding by all applicable federal, state and local laws with respect to firearms, in the jurisdiction where the hotel is located and ensuring that the firearm is:

·         unloaded;

·         secured in a locked, hard-sided firearm container provided by the guest; and

·         securely safeguarded at all times in a guest room (or personal vehicle), except when transporting the firearm into or out of the hotel.


Guests who fail to abide by this policy may be asked to leave the hotel premises. A blanket exception to the restrictions described in this policy statement applies only to law enforcement officers and designated military personnel, who are on-duty and required to carry firearms in the performance of their duties. No exemption to this policy is allowed for private persons, even those licensed and permitted to carry a firearm, and/or where applicable, to conceal-carry a firearm.
